Chairman White - "It's About Time The Feds Got Involved."
Monday, May 2, 2005For immediate release White: It’s about time the feds got involved Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Denny White offered this statement today on news that a federal prosecutor is investigating whether former Lucas County Republican Chairman Tom Noe used third parties to circumvent federal limits on campaign donations to George W. Bush. It’s about time the Feds got involved. Republicans have made a mockery of the election and public interest laws in Ohio – but nothing ever happens because, under one party rule, Ohio has no checks and balances. The results are clear: lost jobs, more tax hikes for individuals and families, more welfare for big corporations – and an increasing number of public officials who seem to think they can disregard the law whenever it doesn’t suit them. From George W. Bush and Bob Taft on down, Republicans are so immersed in a culture of pay to play that they don’t seem to understand that’s it’s wrong. In Washington, our prescription drug bills are written by drug companies, our bankruptcy laws are written by credit card companies and our energy policy is written by oil companies. In Ohio, our tax dollars intended to help injured workers are controlled by big campaign contributors and our tax laws are being written by the same big corporations already shifting the burden onto individuals and families. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and it’s happening in Washington and in Columbus.
