State Senator Marc Dann (D-Liberty Twp.)
announced during Tuesday press conference on
the steps of the Ohio Supreme Court that he has
filed a legal action asking the Ohio Supreme
Court to order the state Bureau of Workers'
Compensation to release records regarding the
bureau's investment of taxpayer dollars in rare
coins with coin dealer Tom Noe.
"As James Madison once said: 'A popular
government without popular information, or the
means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a
farce or a tragedy or perhaps both," said
Senator Dann. "It's a sad day when a member of
the Ohio General Assembly is forced to file a
lawsuit to obtain an inventory and accounting
of money held in a trust by the state injured
workers and their employers."
The lawsuit comes on the heels of two actions
taken in the last couple of days by some of
Ohio's highest office holders - the state's
auditor Betty Montgomery and Ohio's Attorney
General Jim Petro regarding the scandal. Both
have chosen two individuals who are significant
Republican donors to audit and liquidate the
rare coin investments.
