Redfern: Petro’s Inspector Clouseau routine is
growing old
A publication today quoted Attorney General Jim
Petro as stating: “(Critics) might just suggest
the attorney general’s office ought to run
every state agency, question their business
models, question their operating practices. Man
oh man, that’s not something any attorney
general can do." House Democratic Leader Chris
Redfern issued this statement in response:
Ironically, Jim Petro has found the time to try
to question every state agency’s business
models and operating practices. Anyone who has
seen Petro’s massive proposed reorganization of
state government knows this.
Petro has even managed to find the time to try
to prevent Ohio voters from voting for reform
this fall by tying up citizens’ petitions in
court – and undermining he own client’s court
case in the process.
Yet, when the Securities and Exchange
Commission warned him a year ago of possible
abuse at the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation,
Jim Petro insists he didn’t have the time or
the discretion to prevent politically-connected
brokers from ripping taxpayers off.
No one is asking Jim Petro to reorganize state
government. But plenty of us wish he would just
do his darned job.
Jim Petro’s Inspector Clouseau routine is
growing old.
